In this story Big Brother is the "villain" throughout the book and we learn that Winston wants to put a stop to Big Brother. There are posters everywhere with the saying, "Big Brother Is Always Watching You", to try to make you respect the city and Big Brother. The purpose of the posters is also to try to make you fear and never break any of the rules. There was hope in many of the citizens that The Brotherhood wasn't just a myth and was real. The Brotherhood is an organization to put a stop in Big Brother. Winston starts to become interested in this organization and would want to become a member. He thinks The Brotherhood is the only way to find out the truth about Big Brother. The Brotherhood is has been an organization to try to weaken the party but it has been pretty tough.
