The author presents a theme of control and empowered. Winston ends up accepting the party and finds out he loves Big Brother. It represents how brainwashing is such a powerful weapon and we see this in Winston's character. Winston seems to have been brainwashed into liking Big Brother. Living in a world with spies and technology to spy on you must have damaged Winston in a horrible way. In the beginning, the author shows Winston hating the government and how it worked. The government has taught the citizens what is wrong and the trouble they would get into if they break any of the rules. Winston begins to believe that everything Big Brother is doing is good for the city and himself. At the end Winston reveals his love for a dictatorial city.
